Most psychiatrists have experience working with people who abuse sedatives or hypnotics. In contact with such a group of patients, they show understandable vigilance and attention by monitoring the doses of drugs used and the amounts recorded or directing them to drug addiction treatment. Less often, it is recognized that drugs without known addictive potential, such as neuroleptics or antidepressants, may be abused by patients. The article attempts to present the problem of the abused and improperly used drugs from these groups. Although little is known in this field, this article aims to draft some hypotheses that may explain this phenomenon’s potential mechanisms. Finally, the author presents the recommendations that have been formulated in this regard.
