Allergic rhinitis may coexist with other allergic diseases (asthma, atopic dermatitis, gastrointestinal allergy) and upper respiratory airway inflammatory diseases, and also might be involved in the pathogenesis of some of them. The most important disorders related to allergic rhinitis are conjunctivitis, rhinosinusitis, nasal polyps, adenoid, disorders of auditory tube function, exudative otitis media and laryngitis. There are multiple epidemiological, pathophysiological and therapeutic relations between allergic rhinitis and asthma. Allergic rhinitis is a very strong risk factor for asthma development in children and in adults. Appropriate therapy of allergic rhinitis might improve the clinical course of asthma.
