Aripiprazole ODT – who is this alternative for? A simple guide in questions and answers

In the article, I tried to answer the most common questions about the use of aripiprazole in the form of orodispersible tablets (ODT) in a simple and transparent way. While olanzapine or risperidone preparations in the orally soluble version have been available on the market for years, aripiprazole in this form has only recently been available in Poland. Aripiprazole in the form of traditional tablets has been available in Poland for several years. Despite registration by the FDA in 2006 of an oral soluble form, it was not available in Poland for many years. Despite the fact that for many years the Polish standards of treatment of mental disorders and the recommendations of the Polish Psychiatric Association clearly and clearly indicate the key role of aripiprazole in the treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, it still seems reasonable to discuss several aspects of aripiprazole ODT use, which are asked about when lectures or workshops by practitioners in the form of traditional tablets. Clinicians’ concerns are often related to the use of a higher dose of the drug or switching to monotherapy with aripiprazole. An additional problem is the lack of understanding of the differences between the form of ODT and standard tablets, which translates into resignation from the unique benefits that the patient can derive from this form of treatment. Both scientific research and everyday practice confirm that this form of drug administration is extremely well evaluated by patients, which has a beneficial effect on cooperation during treatment.
