Joint involvement is the most common extraintestinal manifestation of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and usually presents as seronegative spondyloarthropathy. Although significant progress has been made in understanding the pathogenesis of IBD-related arthritides, the exact mechanism connecting gut inflammation and arthritis remains to be elucidated. Arthropathies related to IBD may worsen quality of life of affected patients and, in most cases, will require additional pharmacological interventions and rehabilitation. In this paper, we focus on pathogenesis and recent progress in diagnostics and treatment of IBD-related arthritis.
