The current report presents a case of progressive symptomatic retinal detachment in a patient with a history of retinal detachment as a complication of degenerative retinoschisis. In order to confirm the diagnosis, the following additional examinations were performed: optical coherence tomography, Amsler test, kinetic perimetry, fluorescein angiography, and ocular ultrasound. Retinal lesions were documented by photos. The authors emphasize the importance of a detailed examination of peripheral retina, which is essential for detecting complications of degenerative retinoschisis. They also point out the lack of consensus concerning the treatment of retinal retinoschisis. The analysis of the literature shows that an individualized treatment and watchful waiting approach to retinal lesions are the most recommended treatment options. Moreover, risk assessment and laser therapy or cryotherapy used at early stages may be crucial for preventing retinal detachment as a complication of degenerative retinoschisis.
