Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the presence of IL-8, IL-10, IL-13, TNF-alpha and IFN-gamma in subretinal fluid of patients with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment. We studied 46 patients operated on retinal detachment. The presence of cytokines was evaluated using immunoenzymatic assay. IL-8, IL-10, IL-13, TNF-alfa and IFN-gamma were found in all subretinal fluid samples.
The presence of cytokines in the subretinal fluid suggest their significant involvement in the pathogenesis of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment, especially that complicated by vitreoretinal proliferation (PVR).
