Atopic dermatitis is a skin disease frequently coexisting with other disorders of the atopic diathesis (bronchial asthma, allergic rhinitis, food allergy). At present, it is the most commonly occurring inflammatory skin disease. Atopic dermatitis is a chronic condition with diverse clinical presentations. It is characterized by complex, heterogeneous pathophysiology with a wide spectrum of clinical phenotypes. Patients with atopic dermatitis may benefit from personalized medicine which is focused on improved selection of specific therapy, risk prediction and design of disease-modifying management strategies. There is an urgenat need to identify biomarkers to support clinical diagnostic criteria in approaching the disease from the perspective of precision medicine. The article presents state-of-the-art knowledge about of the clinical diversity of atopic dermatitis along with proposed diagnostic criteria.
