Introduction:
White spot lesions (WSLs) significantly impair patients’ esthetic appearance, and patients expect minimally invasive procedures without drilling as well as less expensive treatments.

Objectives:
The current randomized controlled study aimed to compare the masking efficacy of various resinous infiltrants on non-cavitated WSLs over a one-year period.

Material and methods:
Sixty non-cavitated WSLs in upper anterior teeth were gathered from twenty individuals; every person had at least three WSLs. WSLs were randomly divided into three equivalent primary groups based on materials utilized: one control group (Icon), and two intervention groups (OptiGuard and PermaSeal composite sealants). Randomization was carried out by patient choosing a closed envelope with the tooth side and number (in one container) and treatment option (in another container); every patient received each treatment. Materials were applied in accordance with guidelines provided by the Icon manufacturer. Color change (ΔE) was evaluated using Vita Easyshade V spectrophotometer on subsequent assessment intervals: pre-treatment (T0), im-mediately after treatment (T1), at 3 (T2), 6 (T3), and 12 months post-treatment (T4).

Results:
There was a significant improvement in ΔE values in each group following immediate treatment and through-out all follow-up visits. However, over time, all groups’ ΔE values significantly decreased. Icon showed significant improvement in ΔE, followed by composite sealants, but there was no significant variation among the composite sealant groups.

Conclusions:
The composite sealants and Icon resin infiltration showed immediate masking ability of WSLs, while Icon resin infiltration demonstrated favorable color stability compared with composite sealants.
