PlumX metrics:
There is a dispute over whether COVID-19 is more deadly than the flu. Disease mortality does not have to be a parameter that correctly describes the threat. Sometimes population mortality does it better. However this parameter can be calculated after all and does not help to prevent spread of new disease such as COVID-19.Unfortunately, the IFR for influenza is difficult to calculate. Nevertheless, this study makes such an attempt for the USA. This was possible in the case of the USA because it is a country that monitors both diseases relatively well. According to these data, the estimated IFR (infection fatality rate) for COVID-19 was approximately 15 times higher than for influenza, whereas CFR (case fatality rate) was approximately 60 times for COVID-19 than for flu.
