Background
Marriage is an important institution for the healthy maintenance of a society, and it is protected by law.

Objectives
The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between the sociodemographic characteristics of young individuals and their knowledge and attitudes about premarital screening programs.

Material and methods
In our cross-sectional and descriptive study, young adults from 18–35 years of age were included. A sociodemographic form about premarital screening programs, which was created by the researchers by reviewing relevant literature, was given to the participants.

Results
The study included 157 female participants (64.3%) and 87 male participants (35.7%). It was determined that a high level of knowledge about premarital screening programs positively affected attitude (p < 0.05). The attitude score towards premarital screening programs was higher in women than in men (p < 0.05). The negative attitude score of those with high school education was higher than those with university education (p < 0.05). Those with university level education had higher knowledge scores than those with primary school education (p < 0.05).

Conclusions
In this study, it was determined that the attitudes of the participants were positively affected as their level of knowledge about premarital screening programs increased. In addition, those with university level education had higher knowledge scores than those with primary school education.
