This article is a survey of some genetic polymorphisms present in coagulation and fibrinolysis systems, with potential influence on the thromboembolic risk of oral contraception and hormone therapy of the menopausal period. It seems that these thrombophilic anomalies are responsible in part for the increased thrombotic risk being characteristic in particular for the first year of sex steroid administration in women.
