The cornea is an immune privileged site, but failure of corneal limbal stem cells is the cause of vascularisation, increasing the risk of immune response activity. The outcome after conjuctival limbal stem cells transplantation depends mainly on HLA system compatibility. HLA class I typing is one of the important factors considered in donor /recipient par matching. The aim of our study was the analysis of post transplant period in 16 related donor / recipient pars after limbal stem cells transplantation. We conclude that HLA class I and other immunogenetic factors compatibility (inside and out of the HLA region), may play the role in effective treatment.
