Background
Chronic diseases are one of the most significant challenges for healthcare systems, significantly reducing patients’ quality of life. Properly conducted evidence-based supplementation can substantially affect the quality of life.

Objectives
The project aimed to improve pharmacist counseling skills and knowledge about clinical guidelines on supplementation. The secondary goal was to investigate how a pharmacy delivers information and recommendations for patients, whcih can affect pharmacy sales in terms of Market Basket Analysis and education in connection with patient selfcare and awareness about their disease and treatment. Thus, apart from the clinically oriented aim of this study, our findings should show pharmacy owners that patient counselling as a part of pharmaceutical care based on high-quality advice and digital tools can have a positive impact on the financial stability of community pharmacies.

Material and methods
The study was conducted in 2020 in 20 community pharmacies in Poland. Each pharmacy participating in the pilot project received two sets of pictograms (16 different designs) and 800 color leaflets. After scanning the medicine package 2D code or EAN code, information about the possibility of additionally recommended supplementation was displayed on the screen.

Results
An increase in the sales of recommended dietary supplements was observed both in terms of metformin and simvastatin.

Conclusions
Community pharmacies are places where evidence-based supplementation can be widely conducted.
