The Chicago Cancer Health Equity Collaborative (Chicago CHEC) at Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) is proud to announce its Inaugural Women in Science Conference, which will be held on September 18-19, 2017 at NEIU’s Main Campus in Chicago, Illinois. This year’s conference honors the life and work of Marie Skłodowska-Curie on the 150th Anniversary of her birth.
The Conference will feature renowned international speakers from various fields of study including globally renowned Public Health expert, Professor Witold Zatoński, MD, Epidemiologist, President and Founder of the Health Promotion Foundation, Nadarzyn, Poland and Professor of Mathematics Cheri Shakiban from St. Thomas University in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The agenda will also include fascinating seminars, engaging roundtable discussions, a book reading for children and a screening of the 2017 movie release Marie Skłodowska-Curie. The goal of the conference is to bring together scholars, educators, students of all ages, their families and the Chicago community at-large to celebrate the life, work, and accomplishments of physicist and chemist Marie Skłodowska-Curie.
Marie Skłodowska-Curie was the first woman to win the Nobel prize and the only person to receive two Nobel prizes in two different disciplines (physics and chemistry). She is honored for her discovery of radium and polonium, her extraordinary push for clinical adaptation of her laboratory findings to benefit medial patients and extraordinary contribution to the fight against cancer.
The Conference is free and open to public.
