The aim of this study is to establish the frequency of menstrual cycle disorder among women actively practicing sports and to describe their qualitative character. 146 women age 15-30 were eligible for the study. The investigated group consisting of individuals actively practicing sports (more than 5 hours a week), the control group – women practicing sports occasionally or not at all (less than 5 hour a week). The research shows that women who actively practice sport experience hormonal disorder much more frequently than women who do not practice sport at all or do it occasionally and, as a result the former group is more exposed to occurrence of menstrual cycle irregularity. These women face the problem of maintaining the correct body weight, which results in inaccurate BMI. Hormonal disorder and low BMI cause a hi-gher risk of menstrual cycle disorder as well as reduction of mineral density of bones, which in consequence leads to an increased risk of fatigue fracture. The most common type of the disorder is a long menstrual cycle and spotting between cycles. Many sportswomen also report PMS and strong pain during menstruation. That is why women who decide to exert great physical effort should first be advised about the consequences which may ensue.
