Dear colleagues and friendsI have the great honour to invite you to the 66th Congress of the Association of Polish Surgeons which will be held on 18-21 September 2013 in Warsaw. The Congress of the Association of Polish Surgeons has for over 120 years contributed to the exchange and sharing of scholarly and clinical ideas on surgery. It is the most important and the largest bi-annual meeting of Polish surgeons and their foreign counterparts, as well as a discussion forum for Polish surgeons. Every congress helps us to broaden our surgical knowledge which, as happens in any field of medicine, changes every year. This congress has two themes – the first is that surgery is both an art and science. We want to develop this idea during our meeting in September. We want to prove that like any other field of science, surgery changes and evolves at an equally quick pace, becoming less and less invasive surgery. And the second theme is that a surgeon is like a poet – you have to be born a poet and you have to be born a surgeon. Many surgeons have inborn manual skills and dexterity but they have to be continually developed and perfected. This year’s Congress will help us to learn and disseminate new technical solutions and better methods of surgical procedures. Over the three days of the congress we will meet and exchange ideas at many plenary and satellite sessions. We will also have the opportunity to present our scholarly achievements during presentations and poster sessions. A session for surgical nurses has also been planned. Acting in my capacity as Chairman of the Scientific and Organizing Committee and President of the Main Board of the Association of Polish Surgeons I can assure you that we have made every effort to prepare a Congress that will meet all your expectations.
