Introduction. Polymorbidity and unfitness in daily life, no interest of family members, or loneliness have become the most frequent reason for making decision of living in a social welfare home. Such a change of life leads to numerous emotional results. Aim. The dissertation’s goal was to conduct the analysis of emotions among residents of the social welfare home. Material and methods. Survey was conducted on a group of 100 people (50 women and 50 men) permanently staying at the social welfare home for being chronically ill. Courtauld Emotional Control Scale (CECS) as well as the modified Barthel Scale. Results. Their ability to express emotions depends on such factors as: the duration of stay at the social welfare home, the existence of natural support sources (e.g. family), feeling lonely, dependence on others in everyday functioning. Family support creates favourable conditions. Persons dependent and semi-dependent in their everyday life suppress their emotions to more extent than the independent ones for expressing emotions. Conclusions. Residents staying at the social welfare home display a high rate of negative emotions suppression. keywords:
