Inflammation of the small pelvis includes upper genital tract infectious processes in the form of endometritis, salpingitis, adnexal abscess and inflamed pelvic peritoneum. Most of infections have an ascending and multi-pathogenic character and are usually connected with sexually transmitted microbes. Because of the wide range of symptoms, diagnosis concerning inflammatory conditions within the small pelvis is quite difficult. Improper diagnosis or inadequate treatment may lead to a number of serious consequences.

Between 2006 and 2010, six patients underwent laparoscopic surgery due to pelvic abscess in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Sierpc and Gostynin. In half of these cases the operation involved evacuating the purulent content, rinsing the abdominal cavity, releasing the adhesions and drainage. In the case of the remaining patients it was indispensable to remove pathologically changed adnexa. After these procedures, patients were treated with combination parenteral antibiotic therapy. All patients experienced an uncomplicated postoperative period.
