A brief overview of the process of the elucidation of GnRH structure (1971)

The delineation of the primary structure of the gonadotropin-releasing hormone in 1971 released an avalanche

of research on a wide spectrum of aspects concerning releasing hormones and their receptors. Today there are

over 100 000 publications on the subject. It should be pointed out that, when this success was achieved, analytical

tools and molecular methodology were at a semi-primitive stage in comparison to the present time. Therefore,

we should show our respect to the pioneers of neuroendocrinology.
