Significant gender-related differences in epidemiology, clinical manifestation, management and prognosis have been observed for many years between men and women with acute coronary syndromes. So far, the cause of such discrepancies has not been established precisely and unequivocally, because the results of clinical investigation are still controversial. However, women with myocardial infarction are older and have worse risk profile and prognosis than men. Moreover, in many countries women do not receive treatment available for both genders. We present an analysis of epidemiology, clinical course and prognosis in Polish women with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction compared with other populations.
