Stable angina pectoris is a common and disabling disorder. A careful history is the basis of diagnosis of angina pectoris. On the basis of three characteristics of chest discomfort it is possible to distinguish between typical angina, atypical angina and non-cardiac chest pain. The aim of physical examinations and most additional investigations is to confirm or exclude other disorders, which could influence treatment options and prognosis. In order to confirm the diagnosis several further investigations, from widely available ECG stress testing to invasive arteriography, can be performed.
