Despite the development of medicine and education in the field of nursing activities, pressure ulcers remain a common problem for health care and in some patient groups the incidence may be as high as 70%. Patients in advanced age are particularly vulnerable to their development. The presence of pressure ulcers is associated with increased infection rates and mortality among patients, and is a cause of pain and stress both physically and psychosocially. For this reason, preventive measures to prevent their formation and appropriate treatment are an essential element of care. One of the pillars of comprehensive patient support, both in the prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers, should be the use of appropriately selected nutritional support. It seems that medical foods with immunomodulatory properties may prove useful in this role. The aim of this study was to present the effects of the application of an immunomodulating diet in an elderly patient fed enterally as part of comprehensive treatment of pressure ulcers. The use of an immunomodulating diet was associated with a visible reduction in the size of the pressure ulcers described.
