Introduction. Psychotherapy is one of the treatments for alcohol dependence. Aim of the study. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of psychotherapeutic treatment in alcohol-dependent patients treated at the Regional Centre for Addiction Therapy in Pruszków. Material and methods. The study involved 50 patients with alcoholism from Mazowsze region diagnosed with alcoholism. Examined the persistence of alcohol dependence, the factors predisposing to its occurrence, the impact of age, education and previously psychotherapy on the results of the present treatment. Results and conclusions. The best result of psychotherapy were obtained in patients receiving treatment for the second time, and having a higher level of education. The good results achieved in middle-aged patients in whom alcohol is not likely to have caused major damage, and who were able to draw appropriate conclusions from his abuse. Although psychotherapy usually achieves small results, should be performed in some patients with alcohol dependence. Nursing Topics 2015; 23 (1): 57–62
