Influence of selected socio-demographic factors on incidence of depressive disorders in women

Introduction. Depression is a universal, timeless and independent of age disorder affecting people. It is common and often negatively
influences life quality and may even lead to disability. It is a recurrent, chronic disorder.

Aim of the study. The aim of the study was to assess the influence of selected socio- demographic factors on incidence of depressive
disorders in women.

Material and methods. The study included 60 female patients of General Psychiatry Ward, Provincial Psychiatric Hospital, Świecie and
30 female outpatients of Mental Health Clinic, Świecie. The main inclusion criterion was a depressive disorder diagnosed by a psychiatrist.
The method of diagnostic survey was used in the study, the patients were given a questionnaire. The results were statistically analyzed. The
Bioethical Commission approved the study.

Results. Of the selected socio-demographic factors only education and place of residence differentiated incidence of depressive disorders
in women.

Conclusions. Statistically significant relationship was found between education and cause of depressive disorders in women in compared groups.
