Progress in diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal diseases

The review summarizes choosen new aspects in diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal diseases. New techniques, include transnasal endoscopy, which becames recently more popular in Poland, were described. Progress has also been made in several other areas of the endoscopic treatment of gastrointestinal diseases, including Stretta for treatment of GERD and endoscopic ablation of Barrett’s oesophagus. Some important data concerning pancreatic cancer screening were described, focused on recently diagnosed diabetes. Strategy for optimalisation of IBD treatment was discussed and attention was focused also on new polish reccomendation on diagnosis and treatment of chronic pancreatitis and on endoscopic procedures in patients on antithrombotic therapy.
