It is known that the development of type 1 diabetes begins many months and even years before the onset of clinical symptoms of the disease. This period called the preclinical phase is characterized by the presence of antibodies towards β cell antigens in the blood and the impairment of the first phase of insulin secretion. In the initiation of these processes there take part genetic and environmental factors which start the humoral and cellular response. Destruction of 90% of those cells causes onset of clinically visible symptoms of the disease. A preventive procedure through a braking process of the β cells” autoimmunological destruction will be possible only in this preclinical period.
