Quality of life in patients with ulcerative colitis

Introduction. The quality of life is very import ant aspect of nursing care which manifestation is care for the patient’s condition and involvement
of medical community. The level of human satisfaction depends on many different circumstances and factor, which only occasionally
are connected with medicine or condition of your health. The information shown about the deficiency of the quality of life allows us to
understand the behavior and condition of the patient suffering from ulcerative colitis.

Aim of the study. The aim of the study was to assess the quality of life of patients with ulcerative colitis.

Material and methods. The study was performed in the Gastroenterology Ward and Outpatient Gastroenterology Clinic Regional Hospital
in Częstochowa. Tool was Standardized questionnaire WHOQOL-Bref with information about the surveyed was the research tool. A group
of patients with medical diagnosis of ulcerative colitis have participated in this study.

Results and conclusions. The study demonstrated that quality of life in patients with medical diagnosis of ulcerative colitis was lowered.
Physical part of quality of life in these subjects was similar than psychological, and lower in social relationships and environment. In patients
with high quality of life the relationship between the clinical activity of ulcerative colitis and the quality of life is not significant. Patients with
low quality of life showed an average correlation with disease activity.
