Neuropsychiatria i Neuropsychologia (Neuropsychiatry and Neuropsychology) is a quarterly journal that carries scientific and educational papers related to the integration of the disciplines of psychiatry, neurology, and psychology on the basis of modern cognitive and molecular neuroscience. The journal is addressed to all those interested in the latest developments and research in this area, i.e. psychiatrists, neurologists, psychologists, and representatives of other related disciplines.

The journal is particularly focused on cognitive and emotional processes in healthy subjects and people with psychiatric and neurological disorders, including results of neuroimaging studies, research into molecular genetics related to brain function, as well as neurobiological mechanisms of neuropsychopharmacology, psychosurgery, and psychotherapy.

The address of the editorial office of Neuropsychiatria i Neuropsychologia is:

Klinika Psychiatrii Dorosłych Akademii Medycznej w Poznaniu

[Department of Adult Psychiatry, Poznań University of Medical Sciences]

ul. Szpitalna 27/33, 60-572 Poznań, Poland

The journal publishes:

• original papers;

• review papers;

• case studies;

• reports from scientific conferences;

• book reviews;

• letters to the editors.

Papers should be submitted to the Editorial Office by the Editorial System.

A cover letter should accompany the manuscript, containing a declaration to the effect that:

1) the manuscript has not been previously published other than in conference abstract books;

2) The manuscript has not been submitted to another journal;

3) all of the authors endorse the submission;

4) all of the authors’ possible conflicts of interest, financial or otherwise, if related directly or indirectly to the submission, as well as all grants or other forms of financial support are acknowledged in a declaration at the end of the paper.

In all cases, the cover letter should be sent by fax, dated and signed by the first author, to: +48 61 848 03 92.

All original and review papers are subject to review by two anonymous reviewers.

We would like to remind authors that “guest authorship” (defined as the inclusion among the authors of a person who did not take part in the preparation of the work submitted, or whose contribution was minimal), as well as “ghostwriting” (defined as the omission from the list of co-authors or from the acknowledgments section of a person whose contribution to the work submitted was substantial) are manifestations of scientific misconduct, and that any and all cases identified will be exposed and publicised.

Manuscript preparation

The manuscript should be printed single-sided on white A4 paper, with consecutive page numbering, margins of 2.5 cm on both sides, double-spaced, using a 12pt font. Each part of the paper should start on a new page.

Original and review papers should not exceed 5,000 words in length (including tables, figures, references and appendices).

The title page should contain the title of the paper (in both Polish and English if written in Polish), the full names of the authors, their affiliations, and the title and address of the corresponding author (including the telephone number, fax number and e-mail address).

Page 2 should contain an abstract in Polish, 200–250 words in length for original and review papers, and 150 words in length for case studies. Abstracts of original papers should be structured as follows: aims; materials and methods; results; and conclusions. Below the abstract, 3–6 keywords should be given as per Index Medicus.

Page 3 should contain an abstract in English, following the same structure as the Polish abstract. Below the abstract, 3–6 English keywords should be given. Authors of papers written in English do not have to provide the title and the abstract in Polish.

Page 4 and all the subsequent pages should contain the body text of the paper. Original papers should be structured as follows: introduction; methods; results; discussion and conclusions. The methods section should include a statement of approval by the relevant bioethics commission to undertake the study, and of the subjects’ conscious consent, as well as information on the statistical methods used.

When publishing any work, the author(s) should bear in mind that it must comply with the requirements of the Declaration of Helsinki (1975) – an international medical ethics act which stipulates that it is prohibited to name the patients, give their initials or hospital record numbers.

Only international drug names should be used in the body text of the paper.

Abbreviations used in the text should also be explained at first mention (this also applies to the abstract).

All information on the financing sources (e.g. grant numbers) should be given at the end of the paper. All authors should disclose any financial dependencies and any other information that, if omitted, might raise suspicion of a conflict of interest.

References should be arranged alphabetically and cited using the Harvard system (author’s name and year of publication). In the text, for papers with two authors, the citation in the body text should give both names, while for papers with three or more authors, the name of the first author should be given, followed by “et al.” and the year of publication. The references section should cite the names of the first three authors. For papers with more than three authors, “et al.” should be used after the third name. For books, all editors should be given. Abbreviations of journal names should be used as per Index Medicus.

References should use the following structure:

Review process

Submitted manuscripts which comply with instructions for authors are subject to assessment by reviewers. The editors select reviewers taking into account topics presented in the article submitted. Each paper is evaluated by independent reviewers in the double-blind review process, in which authors do not know the identity of their reviewers, nor do the reviewers know the identities of the authors. Reviewers assess the work using the electronic system on the basis of questions prepared for a specific title. Reviewers may also provide individual comments on the article. The paper is accepted for publication after the Editor-in-Chief receives positive opinions of experts.

Authors receive no payment for publishing in Neuropsychiatria i Neuropsychologia, and no fees are charged for publishing. Offprints are not provided.
