I am pleased to hand the second issue 2006 of Archives of Medical Science (AMS) over to you. I hope the articles included are interesting for you and will encourage you to become familiar with the following issues of AMS. I am still waiting for your suggestions and opinions. I will be glad to receive any comments or letters to the Editor regarding the manuscripts we have already published. This form of communication between authors and readers is the best way to exchange opinions and take up the matter-of-fact debate. First, I would like to thank all the people who helped me with this issue of Archives of Medical Science: Dr. Dominic Prezioso and Co-authors for their great educational review paper titled: Changing concepts on prostatitis, Dr. Jacek Rysz, our new Co-Editor for excellent advice and valuable suggestions, and obviously, special thanks to the Publishing Editor – Ms Miroslawa Huk, for her well-aimed advice and commitment. I would also like to invite all AMS’s Readers to acquaint themselves with the mentioned above great review article by Dr. Dominic Prezioso. I would like to inform you that it is only the first part of this article, and the second one will be published in issue 3/2006. I am sure it meets your interests. I am very happy we can publish next great articles written by young researchers (Evaluation of dental status in patients referred to heart surgery – preliminary report by Dr. Michał Jegier. I hope it is going to stimulate other young scientists to send us their manuscripts, and to present the outcomes of their studies in AMS. Finally, I would like to inform you that Archives of Medical Science has been already indexed in EMBASE, Excerpta Medica Database, Chemical Abstracts CAS, Scopus, Index Copernicus (IC), CAB Abstracts, Global Health Databases, KBN, NLM (National Library of Medicine), Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), J-Gate, OpenMED, Geneva Foundation Free Medical Journals and Polish Medical Library (GBL). We are still waiting for the results of indexation in International Pharmaceutical Abstracts (IPA) and Immunological Abstracts. Still in June 2006 we will try to index the journal in Index Medicus/Medline. Finally, I would like inform you that following recent evaluation, AMS has received new predicted value in Index Copernicus Database: 5,67 IC (5 pt. KBN). It is the highest KBN score which a journal without the impact factor can receive. Once again, I would like to invite all scientists to join our Review Board. In my opinion, it is a great chance to widen their knowledge and to meet great scientists from all over the world. You should simply put your personal information on the web site: www.ams.termedia.pl in the section New reviewer. Finally, I am happy to announce that the average period of the review process of the manuscripts accepted for the second issue was only about 3 weeks. All the members of the Editorial Board of Archives of Medical Science deserve credit for this achievement. Nice reading! Maciej Banach, MD Editor-in-Chief of AMS
