Introduction. Care of sick children and the respect of their rights within conditions of closed hospital services is a very substantial element of benefits realized by nurses. Wanting to care quality provided by the nursing staff on paediatric wards was optimal with reference to the requirements of parents of minors patients, it is necessary to know their expectations in this regard. Aim of the study. The aim of the study was the acquisition of information in the matter of expectations of parents at the field of nurse services within paediatric wards and shoving which elements influence on their level. Material and methods. 99 respondents took part in investigations. The group appointed to investigation was constituted out of parents of children staying at hospital. Investigations were conducted at three paediatric departments in three hospitals of Gdańsk. The method of diagnostic survey was applied therein. The instrument of investigation was an author’s questionnaire of survey. Results. Results from the statistical analysis showed that: — expectations of parents of hospitalized children were influenced by: gender and age of respondents, number of children in the family, duration of child’s stay in hospital; — education of the respondents, housing and the place of residence did not affect the presentation of their expectations. Conclusions. Main conclusions drawn out of investigations testify that: — the general level of expectations among the respondents was defined as „high”; — the most essential element of expectations of parents is the possibility of stay together with the child in department and respect for his dignity.
