Metryki PlumX:
This issue of the quarterly Advances in Psychiatry and Neurology/Postępy Psychiatrii i Neurologii closes the 28th volume and the 28th year of its participation in the building of knowledge and skills useful to psychiatrists, neurologists and other professionals who have been increasingly active in the protection of mental health and the health of the nervous system. It also closes the time when I first co-edited the journal with Professor Jerzy Kulczycki and then continued the work by myself. During this time, we have published 112 regular issues and over 20 supplements. I must say that it is not only the form of the journal but also its content, editing and publishing style that have changed a lot. It has not always been easy. The times, people, customs, and with them the environment and responsibilities of the publishers of scientific journals have changed and continue to do so.
Today, I have looked again through the first issue I edited in 1992. Its main theme was paranoid syndrome. The concept was discussed by Jan Jaroszyński, Adam Bilikiewicz, Andrzej Jakubik, Małgorzata Rzewuska, Anna Grzywa aided by the results of two research reports, and also accompanied by a biographic note about Rafał Radziwiłłowicz (1860-1929). The editorial announced the opening of new social, economic and technological perspectives. It also reminded our readers of the excellent work of our predecessors – the publishers and editors of Biuletyn Informacyjny Wydziału Chorób Układu Nerwowego i streszczenia z literatury zagranicznej psychiatrycznej published since the 1950s, Biuletyn Instytutu Psychoneurologicznego issued since the 1970s and Biuletyn Instytutu Psychiatrii i Neurologii available since 1987 .
Looking through this particular issue I also realized that its form and contents to some extent reflect the two beliefs that have been dear to my heart in my editorial work. The first is that research empiricism without living theoretical thought becomes sterile as methodical refinement is never capable of compensating for intellectual or axiological shallowness. And secondly, that the development of science, looking into the future and analyzing the present, cannot be abstracted from the past, as historia magistra vitae protects us against the overpowering pride and dangerous risk of illusions and errors, also in pursuit of bibliometric success.
Today, I wish to thank you all, the magazine’s stakeholders, past and present readers, authors, reviewers,...
