Introduction. Obesity is a chronic disease, which results in many life threatening disorders and leading to a negative influence on the quality and longevity of life. Surgery is one of the most effective methods of treating obesity. Nurse can have a significant impact on the achievement of the desired outcome to enhance the quality of life after bariatric surgery. The aim of the work. The evaluation of long term results after Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy (LSG), rating the quality of life and the influence of nursing practices to improve it. Material and methods. Research took place in Specialist Hospital in Wejherowo, using clinical study method. The quality of life was assessed by Moorehead-Ardelt QOL questionnaire (M-A QOL), which is a specific tool for bariatric patients. To evaluate the work of nursing for the improvement of the QOL, the authorship questionnaire was used. Results. The results in M-A QOL questionnaire showed an improvement on an average level. Evaluating the influence of the nursing practices on improvement of the QOL, satisfactory result was gained in case of nursing care during hospitalization, however unsatisfactory in the pre-surgical period as well as after post-hospitalization. Conclusions. Bariatric surgery is only the starting point of a new lifestyle, however requires adequate pre-surgery preparation and follow-up to the end of life. This clinical research showed that the establishment of a standardized therapeutic system, with bariatric nurse, as a member of multidisciplinary team, is necessary. This kind of system will ensure patients safety and will improve QOL. keywords:
